The Actor’s Fund Educating New and Soon-to-be Moms

Becoming a parent presents a whole host of previously unknown concerns, and health care is one of the big ones. It’s so vital that I know several working actress moms who consider working background during slow times in order to work enough days to qualify for SAG health care.

Luckily, the amazing folks at The Actor’s Fund is hosting a series of workshops for new moms and pregnant women. The first workshop is on April 25, 2017, and will cover topics such as:

  • Choosing providers that best suit your needs (e.g. obstetricians, pediatricians, etc.)
  • Finding health insurance networks that cover those providers
  • Understanding your rights and protections during pregnancy and as a new mom

Check out the workshop info here!

Interview: Kristine Oller on Mastermind Groups for Mama Actors

RULE

If there’s one thing all parents can agree on, it’s that becoming a parent changes your life. For some, this change is easy, and for others of us, not so much.

Enter Kristine Oller, who has the best job title ever–Change Strategist. Kristine works with creative professionals (she was an actor for 10 years herself) to guide them through the process of change. I’ve followed Kristine’s work for years and when I found out she was starting a Mastermind Group designed specifically for actor parents, I had to find out more.

But my faith has been restored…by an amazing woman (and mom, of course). Lynsey Addario’s memoir It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War is everything I could have hoped for and more: harrowing true tales, strong and imperfect women, brutal honesty about the dilemmas of life.

[TMA Recommends] WeRehearse Video Chat for Actors

TMA Recommends is a series about sharing stuff. The best stuff. The kind of stuff that helps make my life as a working mama actor not just do-able but delightful. They’re not reviews or critiques, because why would I waste space talking about stuff I don’t like. I only recommend stuff that I use and love, and unless I explicitly mention it, I’m not compensated for my opinions in any way.

Why did no one think of this before?

I recently discovered a new online service for actors called We Rehearse. It’s one of those things that’s so brilliant you wonder, “why did no one think of this earlier?”
